Volunteer Serving Opportunities for SCORE Chapter 574
- Are you a working business professional who wants to volunteer your expertise to help small businesses succeed?
- Have the current economic times resulted in a job loss, or reduced hours - giving you more free time for outside activities?
- Are you ready to retire from your day job, but still want to keep on contributing to the new business economy?
- Are your retired and well, a "little bored"?
- Would you like to be associated with national organization that has a solid history of helping businesses, and a local organization that has consistently been "on top of their game" the last 5 years?
Answer "YES" to any of the above, and you owe to yourself to check out Northern Illinois SCORE! You can share your business knowledge and experience with other volunteers and with SCORE clients. You can help emerging businesses succeed and stay active in the local and national small business marketplace.
The SCORE Association "Counselors to America's Small Business" is the premiere small business counseling and advice organization in the United States. SCORE is a nonprofit, charitable organization composed of 10,500 volunteer business mentors, both working and retired, who counsel businesses from nearly 400 counseling offices throughout the country. Why not explore this unique opportunity to give something back to your business community?
Who Are SCORE Volunteers?
SCORE volunteers represent every facet of the business community. Some have worked as executives at Fortune 500 companies, while others have been entrepreneurs themselves. Our experts also include volunteers with university, military, or government experience. SCORE brings expertise from a wide range of business disciplines, as well as the time-tested experience of volunteers who have faced business opportunities and challenges similar to your own. SCORE counselors are proud to serve as advisors, mentors and coaches to entrepreneurs. Join SCORE and share your knowledge and expertise with aspiring entrepreneurs and growing small businesses.
Volunteers Provide Expert Leadership
SCORE'S mission is based upon entrepreneurship and leadership. As business leaders, you can volunteer and serve as a leader of this nationwide network of small business counselors.
Leadership positions are available at the local, district and national level. You can lead SCORE as a chapter committee chair, chapter chair, district director and
as a member of the national board of directors. Use your skills to build a stronger SCORE --develop a chapter marketing campaign; create an outreach program that expands
community support; mentor new volunteers; share your advice as an email counselor; and/or lead workshop sessions. We encourage you to get involved in ways that you enjoy
and that bring your best qualities to entrepreneurs seeking to achieve their American dream of small business ownership.

The satisfaction I get from SCORE equals, and many
times surpasses, the feeling of accomplishment I enjoyed when I
worked for Citicorp/Citibank. I choose to volunteer for SCORE
because I know I can steer potential small business owners
around the pitfalls of starting a business. Being able to keep
someone from losing everything or help them successfully grow a
market for a new product or service is all the reward I need. Frederic W Thomas. SCORE counselor. Thelford Cenler VT |
As a woman business owner, I
know how difficult it can be to obtain financing or even find
basic support for an entrepreneurial venture. Being able to
help the next generation of women business owners avoid those
roadblocks makes me proud to be a SCORE member and a director
on our national board. Ana Maria Fernandez Haar, president and CEO, The IAC Group and SCORE Board director, Miami, FL |
As one of the founding members
of SCORE'S email counseling service, I am incredibly gratified
to be able to provide online assistance to entrepreneurs across
the country. SCORE'S fast-growing email counseling has opened up
a whole new way for business professionals to volunteer for
SCORE and is an easy way to connect with emerging businesses in
need of our expertise. Erv Simon, SCORE email counselor, Colorado Springs, CO |
